Mam a dad
April 14, 2016

My grandmother used to say: “If you look back for too long, you’ll get a stiff neck.”

Nan was a diminutive darling, a lady with a pure and open heart. She died when I was six, but I can vividly remember her white hair, her smile, and her beautiful benevolence.

Her words resonate with me on many levels: They’re a reminder not to dwell on the icky stuff that can anchor us down and hold us back. Her words also remind me to acknowledge and accept the past.

I thought of my nan’s words when I unearthed this beautiful picture of my late mother and father this week. They were both very much in love when this was taken. And this is how I want to remember them.

I miss them. I love them.

If you love them, tell them.
